A 40-year-old house help has been arrested for allegedly stealing three children.

The suspect was arrested from Kireka, a Kampala suburb, where she was allegedly hiding the children she reportedly stole on December 28.
She is being held at Iganga Central Police Station.

The Iganga police officer in-charge of criminal investigation department, Mr Ayub Waiswa, said the suspect was tracked down by phone following her disappearance from her employer’s home in Bulubandi Village in Iganga Municipality.

He said Mr Jacob Kibuye, the children’s father, also the maid’s employer, alerted the police after noticing that his children and the maid were missing on December 29.

Child theft charges
The suspect reportedly told the police that she wanted to take the children to her former husband, after telling him she had had three children with him.

Mr Waiswa said the suspect would be charged with three counts of child stealing when their investigations are complete.

In a related development, Mr Waiswa said police had arrested a 37-year-old traditional healer for allegedly murdering his girlfriend.

He said the suspect, a resident of Nakalama Village, reportedly killed his girlfriend whose body was found lying 100 meters away from her house.
He said the deceased is suspected to have been killed as she returned from a bar at 2am on December 29.

Mr Waiswa said the suspect admits that he was with the deceased during this night but denies killing her.
