Hearing of conned ex-Parliament accountant’s case for July

KAMPALA- Court in Kampala has pushed hearing of a case in which a former assistant accountant at Parliament lost over Shs 627m in a fake land transaction to July 16.
Mr Grieves Byakika Wakutala accuses six men of failing to give him two square miles of land in Lugolode Bulemezi in Luwero District after he gave them his money between 2014 and 2016. The accused are James Borere, Damian Serubiri, David Natale, Mukasa Abdallah, Ismail Lukwago and George Siska.

The suspects were charged alongside one, Emmanuel Ssali, 78, who died before the hearing could proceed.
The suspects are facing eight counts which include; conspiracy to defraud, obtaining registration by false pretence, forgery, impersonation and uttering false documents.

The presiding magistrate, Ms Marion Mangeni adjourned the case which is at the stage of cross-examination by the defence lawyers at Buganda Road Court saying she needs more time to peruse through the case file since she has just been assigned to hear it.

Prosecution states that the accused persons obtained Shs 627,700,000 from Mr Wakulata between December 2014 and September 2016 at the Social Security House in Kampala, under the guise that they would sell him the said land whereas not.

One of the defence lawyers, Mr Godfrey Bamulungi told court that they were ready to proceed with the cross examination of the prosecution witness, Mr Wakulata because his testimony ended three months ago.
He said hearing of the case was affected and delayed by the transfer of the first trial magistrate, Mr Jamson Kalemani.
“The first magistrate in this matter was Mr Jamson Kalemani who was transferred to Nakawa court, when a new magistrate James Ereemye was appointed,” he said.
