KAMPALA.
Ms Jacqueline Uwera Nsenga, a woman accused of knocking dead her husband Juvenile Nsenga early last year, on Wednesday took to the dock and denied killing her husband at their family home in Bugolobi, a Kampala suburb.
“Not guilty,” said Ms Nsenga after a court clerk read to her the murder charges that attract a maximum penalty of death by hanging on conviction.
Ms Nsenga, who is currently on remand at Luzira prison, was produced before the High Court in Kampala.
She appeared before Judge Duncan Gaswaga, who is set to conduct a special criminal session of about 45 suspects.
Prosecution alleges that Ms Nsenga on or about January 10 last year unlawfully caused the death of Nsenga at their home on Muzindalo Road, Bugolobi in Nakawa Division, Kampala.
It is alleged that as Ms Nsenga drove through the family gate after her late husband had come to open for her, she rammed into him in the process.
Upon entering plea of not guilty yesterday, Justice Gaswaga said he will start hearing the matter today.
The prosecution led by Principal State Attorney Susan Okalany told court that they have about 29 witnesses to make their case against Ms Nsenga.
TWISTS IN CASE
Prior to her being charged in court on July, 15 last year, the police and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) clashed on what kind of charges to prefer against Ms Nsenga.
The police had initially wanted to prefer lighter charges of traffic in nature, arguing that they had found no evidence of intentional killing but the DPP insisted on murder charges.
