Mr Lukwago accuses Mr Kidandala of planning to replace him, thus dropping him as deputy Lord Mayor

Kampala- The deputy Lord Mayor, Mr Sulaiman Kidandala, has said he has no plans to unseat his boss, Mr Erias Lukwago, as it has been reported in the local media.

“I do not have any plan to take over the office of the Lord Mayor and there is no single meeting organised to discuss on such matters. I will be willing anytime he calls on me because I have no grudge against him,” Mr Kidandala told this newspaper in an exclusive interview yesterday.

He, however, said he is distressed with the manner in which his boss has handled the developments in the media, saying it is unfortunate that he has acted on “rumours” perpetrated by self-seeking individuals.

His wish
Mr Kidandala, who was found in his office at City Hall, however, said he wants the Kampala Capital City Authority to clear the legal barriers to his (Mr Lukwago’s) office and let him perform the duties that are attached to that office.

The Kawempe Division councillor said he wanted to address a press conference to explain himself on why he attended the councillors’ retreat convened at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel Entebbe last week, but he was caught off-guard by events.

“I have a duty to fulfill as an elected councillor representing a division in Kampala and that is the capacity in which I attended the meeting. If I keep shunning such meetings where issues affecting my electorates are discussed, how will I express my dissatisfaction over the matters discussed,” he asked.

Mr Kidandala said he is determined to pursue through “legal or dialogue” means matters only regarding his office and not anything to do with the Lord Mayor’s office.
Mr Lukwago last Friday dropped Mr Kidandala as his deputy, accusing him of scheming to unseat him as Lord Mayor. The former accuses the latter of attending meetings of the councillors without notifying him.

However, Mr Kidandala pointed out that he communicated to his boss about the meeting a day before and that he has tried to get in touch with him since he left Entebbe retreat but in vain.
