KAMPALA- President Museveni on Thursday bragged that he forced the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago out of office.

Using an analogy of rats stealing millet, Mr Museveni told a rally in Makindye East that Mr Lukwago had failed to fight corruption at City Hall, which was stalling government projects such as roadworks.

He said this was what prompted him to throw the Lord Mayor out of office and entrust the management of the city to Ms Jennifer Musisi, the executive director of Kampala Capital City Authoriry (KCCA).

“I chased Lukwago. He had failed. I used force to chase him. Rats had become a problem, rats would even eat roads. That Kafumbe-Mukasa Road, I would send money but the road would not be constructed. I got Musisi like a drug to kill the rats in Kampala but the drug might be very tough,” Mr Museveni said.

Mr Lukwago has been out of office since he was controversially impeached by KCCA in 2013.
The High Court nullified his impeachment and reinstated him but the Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma overturned the decision and ordered Lukwago out of office.
His appeal is still pending the hearing in the Court of Appeal, about two months to the expiry of his current term.

As the President was praising Ms Musisi, the crowd was baying for her blood deriding her name for evicting vendors and informal traders off Kampala streets.

Mr Museveni warned Ms Musisi against her “high-handed” methods she is using to manage the city.

“When I was in Wakiso, we decided to reduce on the toughness of the drug of Musisi because Musisi knocks everything,” Mr Museveni added.

Mr Museveni castigated voters for electing Opposition MPs and said they would not benefit from government projects.

“Makindye West failed because they said all the roads are in Makindye East. If you kill yourself, we cannot mourn you. They decided to strangle themselves with [Hussein]Kyanjo,” Mr Museveni said.
