Kampala- Presidential candidate Elton Joseph Mabirizi has promised to revive the country’s “crumbling” economy, as his first priority once he is given the chance to become president in the 2016 general elections.

Mr Mabirizi blamed the skyrocketing inflation in the country on the NRM government, which he said is as result of the privatisation policy which has led to repatriation of profits by foreign investors.

“If Ugandans make a mistake to vote back the NRM government instead of Mr Mabirizi, inflation is likely to worsen. These are the same people who have wrecked our (Uganda’s) economy,” Mr Mabirizi said.

He added: “President Museveni has positioned thugs in all the government institutions who have stolen millions of taxpayers’ money.”
His remarks come at a time when the country’s inflation rate stands at 8.8 percent, according to Bank of Uganda.

He was speaking to his supporters at Kasubi Royal Hotel, in Kawempe Division yesterday, shortly after his nomination by the Independent Electoral Commission at Namboole Stadium outside Kampala.

Mr Mabirizi, 40, is among the eight presidential candidates who have been nominated to contest in the forthcoming elections set for February 18, 2016.

The born again pastor who was in company of former presidential aspirants William Kyuma Kya Yesu and popular actor Vicks Kingo, also lashed out at presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi for having been part of the system that has “robbed” the country for the last 30 years.

“Please do not risk to vote for thugs, why is Mr Mbabazi coming out now when he has been in the system for the last 30 years?” asked Mr Mabirizi.
