Kampala- The Uganda National Examinations Board has set December 30-31 as dates to interview candidates who applied for the position of executive secretary.

Speaking to the Daily Monitor yesterday, Uneb chairperson Fagil Mandy said they have already sent invitations to all the 53 candidates vying for the position.

“We are convening on December 23 to set up an appointments committee to scrutinise the academic credentials of all candidates and later choose the best,” he said by telephone yesterday

Time to retire
The office is currently occupied by Mr Mathew Bukenya whose 16-year reign at Uneb expired this year and is expected to hand over to the next executive secretary next month.

Mr Mandy said once the interviews are done, the new executive secretary would be declared.
“We had initially planned to have this process done much earlier so that Mr Bukenya gets time to orient his successor but the delay to inaugurate the new board affected our programme and we are caught up by time ,” he said.

He said the task of choosing Bukenya’s successor is likely to be a very challenging one given his extra-ordinary credentials that have proved so hard to match.
