Kabaka’s guard found dead in the middle of Bombo Road

KAMPALA- Police authorities have launched investigations into the death of Hassan Mugerwa also known as Maliba, a Kabaka guard who was found dead at Kubbiri on Bombo Road on Saturday morning.
Mr Paul Kangave, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, said Mugerwa’s body was found lying in the middle of the road in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
“Our police officers were called very late in the night that there was a man lying in the middle of the road at Kubbiri near Kobil Petrol Station on Bombo Road. On arrival, they realised he was dead and took him to city mortuary,” Mr Kangave said.
Police suspect the deceased could have been strangled, poisoned or died of natural death since there was no blood on the body or a on the ground.
“We have started our investigation to establish the cause of his death. We got to know his name when friends called his phone which we picked at the scene,” Mr Kangave said.
Mugerwa commonly known as Maliba was the founder of Kabaka Munyango Royal Boda-Boda Escorts group.
In an interview with one of the online publications, in April 2016, Mugerwa said he started alone to escort the Kabaka using his motorcycle. His style of riding started to attract other boda-boda riders, who joined him.
When the number of riders started to grow, one of the Kabaka’s security guards advised him to form an official group where all members could be registered for easy communication and to ensure there is no security threat to the Kabaka.
Mugerwa was of Nkima Clan and a resident of Kyaddondo County. He was nicknamed Maliba because he could wear an animal skin coat most of the time. He was a son to Ms Maria Namubiru and late Abdul Lukwago of Mpenja village in Gomba County.
Mugerwa who is survived by a wife and children and will be laid rest at his ancestral home on Sunday at Butega village in Mityana District.
Mr Noah Kiyimba, the Buganda Kingdom spokesperson, described Mugerwa’s death as unfortunate and shock to Buganda kingdom and his family. He said he was an obedient, respectful and much organised young man.
“It was very sad when we got the news of his death. A security guard at Kobil Petrol Station told us the thugs took his motorcycle and their intention was to leave him dead,” he said.
He added: “Ssabassajja [King] is mourning with the friends and family. As Mengo we ask police to make thorough investigations into his death and have the culprits apprehended.’
