Kabale RDC tells cultural leaders to shun opposition

What you need to know:

There is no way a sheep can be attacked by the leopard and the shepherd just keeps silent. Such silence may be misinterpreted. We need to hear from our bishops either celebrating or condemning the recent acts of violence in Rwezururu Kingdom that resulted into bloodshed and destruction of property

Kabale. Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Darius Nandinda has advised cultural leaders to avoid opposition politicians who want to use their kingdoms as a base to undermine the ruling government.
Addressing press in Kabale Town on Wednesday, Mr Nandinda said: “It’s true cultural leaders have immunity under the Constitution but the moment kingdom palaces get involved in activities that undermine national security, their immunity will be withdrawn.”
The board chairman for Kick Corruption out of Uganda, who is also the parish priest for Kitanga Catholic Parish in Kabale Diocese, Fr Gaetano Batanyenda, proposed that November 27 when the Rwenzururu palace was attacked be made a public holiday since those who died were innocent.
On November 27, violence erupted in Kasese Town’s Muyenga neighbourhood, the Rwenzururu Kingdom’s Buhikira palace, after government troops moved to disband royal guards loyal to King Charles Wesley Mumbere. King Mumbere has since been arrested, charged with murder and remanded to prison.
