Kampala- The Speaker of Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, has asked the Ministry of Education to develop a
policy to regulate the amount of work primary school children are given, as well as the time they spend at
Officiating at the 20th anniversary of Straight Talk Foundation on Friday, Ms Kadaga said it was absurd
that pupils wake up as early as 5am to report to school and return home at 6pm, depriving them of time to
enjoy their childhood.
She recalled that during her primary school, they used to report to school at 8am and return home at 5pm
yet there was time in between to play both at school and home.
While responding to a request by the children to come up with laws against pornography and sexual
harassment, Ms Kadaga said such laws were in the offing but the challenge was with implementation.
Ms Cathy Watson, the founder of Straight Talk, said the information gap was still wide because they cannot
reach all corners of the country.
