Kagina vows to deal with corrupt officials at UNRA

Kampala. The executive director of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), Ms Allen Kagina, has promised to rid the agency of corrupt individuals.
Speaking at her maiden press conference at UNRA offices in Kampala yesterday, Ms Kagina said her experience as public administrator shows that it is normally a few “bad apples” that soil the name of the entire organisation, a fight she vowed to take on.
“There are good people here at UNRA but it is only a few people who give this institution a bad name. But that will be sorted,” she said.
“We will look through where the weaknesses are, if it is human weakness, it will be sorted and if it is in finance, it will be dealt with and if it is with the UNRA engineers or even consultants, it will be dealt with swiftly and firmly,” she added.
Ms Kagina, who previously served as Commissioner-General Uganda Revenue Authority for 10 years, is hailed for her stance against corruption.
She said her actions and decision will be informed after proper understanding of the issues, which will be guided after studying internal and external audits carried on UNRA.
Ms Kagina said nothing will be a closed matter anymore at UNRA because the institution is accountable to Parliament, government and citizens.
The UNRA boss also said companies working with the agency will sign a performance contract committing to uphold work ethics and pledging works will be accomplished within the agreed time schedule.
Ms Kagina also vowed to end corruption at UNRA weigh bridges.
