The councillors say Mr Caleb Tukaikiriza antagonises the district leadership.

Kalangala. Kalangala District councillors have asked President Museveni to recall the Resident District Commissioner on grounds that he has failed to execute his duties.
During a special sitting last Friday, the councillors said Mr Caleb Tukaikiriza does not cooperate with other district leaders. This, they said, has affected service delivery.
“Aside from being disrespectful of the district leadership, Mr Tukaikiriza is not developmental. We ask President Museveni to get us a new RDC who can work closely with the district leaders,” Mr Julius Mukasa Opondo, the district finance secretary, said while moving a motion to expel the RDC.
All district councillors overwhelmingly supported the motion and resolved to officially write to the President requesting him to appoint another RDC.
“How can the RDC support the army to harass the district chairperson and journalists? Even if it means going to see the President, I recommend that we go as soon as possible,” asked Mr Jim Jem Gyagenda, the Bujumba Sub-county councillor.
When contacted, Mr Tukaikiriza distanced himself from the allegations, saying he is supposed to remain independent, especially when monitoring government programmes.
“I have been working with the district for a long time. How come they decide to pass that resolution without getting my side of the story?” Mr Tukaikiriza asked.

Genesis
Mr Tukaikiriza’s woes stem from his association with members of the Reserve Force, whom councillors accuse of using underhand methods to fight illegal fishing in the district. The soldiers were deployed in Kalangala early this year to help fight illegal fishing in the district.
