KAMPALA.
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has unveiled plans for the third Kampala City Carnival, promising it will be full of flair, fun and feasting.

KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi yesterday said the carnival was sponsored by several companies, adding that more than Shs400 million had so far been collected for the function.
The festivals under the theme “For the love of Kampala,” is scheduled for October 5.

“We have included more stages of entertainment to cater for the various groups of people. We have received more sponsorship to entertain and excite Kampalans. So it’s going to be merrymaking and everyone will be a guest of honour,” Ms Musisi said during a press conference in Kampala yesterday.
“The trust we have built as KCCA has compelled more private investors to inject money into the festival, making it the most extraordinarily funded city carnival among the previous ones,” Ms Musisi added.

More than a million people are expected to attend the carnival.
KCCA spokesperson Peter Kaujju said Shs1 billion would be spent on preparation and hosting the event.
Flanked by KCCA councillors and some technical people, Ms Musisi received dummy checks from at least 14 private sponsors including; Airtel Uganda (Shs100m), Huawei (Shs100m), Ruparelia Group (Shs100m) and Uganda Breweries (Shs150m), among others.

“Usually we are running after street vendors, but this time it’s their event to celebrate the changing face of their city. It’s a much anticipated moment for citizens to share and learn while acting as an economic engine for organisations to grow, network and prosper,” Ms Musisi said.

The Kampala city carnival
The Kampala City Carnival started in 2012 as a platform to rally city dwellers together and celebrate the city. KCCA says the festival is aimed at preserving history and tradition and strives to stimulate the local economy, entertain and involve the community and visitors in a fun–filled atmosphere.
