KAMPALA- The Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) party president, Ms Beti Olive Kamya, has threatened to mobilise Ugandans to kick out NRM legislators should they collude with the Independent MPs to extend their term for another two years.

Ms Kamya’s warning comes after media reports that among the issues to be discussed during the ongoing ruling NRM party retreat at Kyankwanzi was the delay of the next polls.

In a telephone interview with Daily Monitor yesterday, the former presidential contestant said she would mobilise Uganda to throw out the MPs under Article 255(i) of the Constitution.

“The referendum would throw them out, expose their selfishness and greed and also bar them from participating in any other election or holding any other public office. For the first time Ugandans are going to use their power to fight against dictatorship because we cannot have such people who are selfish,” Ms Kamya said.

“They are doing all this because they have failed to perform and they now fear the people. In the 8th Parliament, 69 per cent of the MPs did not make it back to Parliament and the current ones are worse. They don’t have money and are heavily indebted,” she added.

However, the NRM party had early this week distanced itself from a group of MPs said to be part of the plot and also disputed allegations to change the Constitution to erase the presidential age limit.
“We don’t have the age limit on the agenda and we have no plan to push the 2016 polls to 2018,” Ms Evelyn Anite, the NRM caucus spokesperson, said.
