In Summary
The leaders said Karamoja had for long suffered from insecurity and harsh weather and has been dependant on humanitarian and aid whose freezing means the collapse of all socio-economic development in the region.
Leaders in Karamoja Sub-region have appealed to donors to review their decision to cut aid for the sake of the poor people of northern Uganda and Karamoja.
During a meeting under the Uganda Local Governments Association (ULGA) Karamoja Chapter, in Kotido District at the weekend, the leaders urged Ireland, Britain, Denmark and Germany to restore the aid to help fight poverty.
The leaders said Karamoja had for long suffered from insecurity and harsh weather and has been dependant on humanitarian and aid whose freezing means the collapse of all socio-economic development in the region.
They also recommended that the donors and the government send money directly to beneficiary districts to minimise corruption.
The appeal follows donor suspension of funding under the Peace and Recovery Development Programme for northern Uganda last year after billions of shillings were ‘stolen’ in the Office of the Prime Minister.
