Kayihura transfers Kaweesi

Mr Andrew Felix Kaweesi

Kampala- Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura has transferred Mr Andrew Felix Kaweesi from the Police Directorate of Operations, where he has been director since September 2014.

Mr Kaweesi will now head the Force’s Human Resource Development.

A police message sent yesterday evening said Mr Kaweesi has been replaced by Mr Haruna Isabirye, who has been the commander Kampala Metropolitan Police.

Police spokesman Fred Enanga couldn’t confirm the changes as he was out of office but when contacted, Mr Isabirye confirmed he had been transferred.

“That is our nature of work,” Mr Isabirye said yesterday.

The transfer comes at a time when crime rate has increased around the country. The director of police operations is often in charge of the management of 70 per cent of the police troops, and that position is among the top five.

Gen Kayihura recently praised Mr Isabirye, saying he has been able to expose crime in the city centre.

This is the second high profile reshuffle in less than three months. In May, Gen Kayihura redeployed three senior officers, including Mr Herman Owomugisha from Flying Squad to Interpol.

Mr Isabirye has been replaced by Mr Benjamin Namanya, who has been acting as the director of Human Resource Development.
