Kazinda denies embezzling funds

The jailed former principal accountant in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Geoffrey Kazinda, yesterday denied the charges slapped against him by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of stealing government money.

Mr Kazinda, who is on trial on charges of abuse of office, embezzlement, causing financial loss of more than Shs316 million to the government told court the charges preferred against him are of things that happened when he was already in prison. Kazinda told court that the Auditor General’s report of October 2012 was only querying the huge sums of money advanced to New Caltex Ntinda Service Station without security yet it was a private firm.

Justice Lawrence Gidudu adjourned the case to today with a ruling on whether to accept Kanzida tend in the Auditor General’s report or not. He also issued summons to the Director of Auditor, Mr Steven Kateregga, to provide authentic documents of the same.
