The Rt Rev George Bagamuhunda was on Sunday consecrated as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi at a colourful function attended by more than 30 bishops and other high-ranking clergy from within and outside the country.

The ceremony was presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Stanley Ntagali, at St Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama in Kabale Town. Bishop Bagamuhunda promised to initiate revival conferences and refresher courses for the clergy.

He said this will help church leaders to catch up with the new trends in the world and equip them with knowledge of fighting poverty. “I need everybody on board so that we can cause development in our rural and urban communities,” Bishop Bagamuhunda said.

Priorities
He listed his other priorities as; evangelism, surveying church land, preaching food security and initiating school inspection teams at the diocese to strengthen better academic performance in the diocese.

Bishop Emeritus George Katwesigye said those that had gone to the courts of law challenging the consecration of Bishop Bagamuhunda were forgiven even before they lost the case. He asked them to work the diocese leadership.

Archbishop Ntagali asked the new bishop to serve the flock equally as Jesus did and also asked Christians to give chance to him so that he can lead them ably.
