Kipoi, two others remanded to Luzira over attempted human trafficking

Former Bubulo West Member of Parliament, Tonny Nsubuga Kipoi and two others have been charged with 22 counts of attempted human trafficking and remanded to Luzira Prison.
Kipoi was on Friday charged alongside Silas Opejo and Patrick Engoret Obella at Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s court.
They denied the charges read to them by Chief Magistrate Jameson Karemani in absence of their lawyers. They were remanded until March, 16 when they will return to court for mention of the case.

Prosecution states that Kipoi, Opejo and Engoret on April 17, 2013 attempted to traffic Moses Agama, Ben Malinga, Isaac Okalebo and Juma Akol, among others from Bukedea to Democratic Republic of Congo.
Kipoi was arrested in February in Botswana on accusations of going around masquerading as a witch doctor and defrauding four female victims of more than 290,000 Pula, about (Shs111.6m), between May 2017 and January 20, this year.

He is alleged to have been recruiting people in both Uganda and DRC to overthrow the government. He is also alleged to have been a financer for the Allied Democratic Front (ADF) rebel group.

Apart from the treason charge, Kipoi is also wanted for a case of Human Trafficking at Bukedea Police Station under CRB 393/2013 among other cases.

Kipoi was repatriated on request and negotiations between Botswana government and the External Security Organisation (ESO).
