The third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs, Hajji Ali Kirunda Kivejinja was on Tuesday night involved in a car accident in Magamaga, Mayuge District.
Busoga East Police Spokesperson, Mr James Mubi, said the accident that occurred at Buwanga B village, Magamaga Town Board at about 8:00pm, involved Mr Kivejinja’s car, Reg. UG 0019I and a tractor Reg. UAN 051P.

The two automobiles were heading to Jinja.

Mr Mubi said the cause of the accident is yet to be established but both cars have been towed to Magamaga Police Station as investigations progress.

He said Mr Kivejinja, who didn’t sustain serious injuries, was taken to Nile International Hospital, an affluent private hospital in Walukuba-Masese Division for check-up, before being transferred to Kampala.

In a Wednesday statement, the spokesperson of the ruling National Resistance Movement secretariat Mr Rogers Mulindwa, said Mr Kivejinja was travelling from Namisindwa District in Eastern Uganda where he represented President Museveni at two campaign rallies. He said the minister’s driver and bodyguard are out of danger.
