Kisoro mayor become first MP for Kisoro municipality

KISORO- The Mayor for Kisoro town council Mr Sam Byibesho has been elected as the first Member of Parliament for Kisoro Municipality that starts its official operations as a municipality, effective in July this year.

The Kisoro district electoral commission returning officer, Mr Alex Ainebyoona, declared Mr Sam Byibesho (NRM) successful, after winning with 3,300 votes while his close challenger Mr Paul Buchana, son of the agriculture minister Mr Tress Buchana (Independent) got 2,900 votes.

Others in the race was Christopher Dfutumukiza (independent) who got 34 votes.

Mr Byibesho has been the mayor for Kisoro town council since 2002 and he attributes his success to his down-to-earth approach while serving the local residents of the area without segregation.

"I think people vote for me because of the achievements made since I was elected the mayor 15 years ago. Some of the achievements include participating in the process to elevate Kisoro town council into a municipality, construct a modern central market that accommodates about 200 large scale business men, construction of the taxi/bus parks, beautification of Kisoro town that made it attain the 7th position among the clean towns in Uganda and having night street lights on all the streets in Kisoro among others.

Mr Byibesho promised to buy exercise books for all the children in different primary schools in Kisoro town starting with the beginning of second term in his bid to promote and supplement government programmes of universal primary education.
