KITGUM. Unknown gunmen on Tuesday evening shot dead Ms Grace Ageno, the Kitgum town councillor for Greenland Parish in Pager Division, Kitgum Municipality, over unclear circumstance.
The police said Ms Ageno, who was also a secretary at the Kitgum Resident State Attorney’s office, was shot twice in the stomach at 9pm at her home in Limo Sub-ward. Ms Ageno died from her home after losing a lot of blood, according to the police.
Aswa Regional Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema said the police visited the crime scene on Wednesday morning and retrieved the body of the deceased and had taken it to Kitgum Hospital for postmortem.

Mr Okema said two suspected assailants are still at large and police are pursuing them.
“We still don’t have any clear clue on the murder but our investigation will help us trail the assailants,” he said.
The police have recovered two cartridges at the crime scene which will be used to examine the type of gun used by the assailants.
Other killings in the municipality
Gun related crimes in Kitgum district have soared since the beginning of the year with five cases of killings registered by police.

In July this year, gunmen shot dead Christine Omoya and injured her husband Mzee Lamson Omoya, a retired clergy of the Anglican Church. Security officials suspected the shooting could have been triggered by a land dispute.

In June, Ms Alice Akello, 30, a business woman in Kitgum Municipality, survived with grave injuries after thugs armed with AK-47 rifles attacked her at her at her home.

In the same month, Mr Francis Okumu, a health worker in Lamwo district, was shot twice in the legs by unknown gunmen from his home in Bardege village, Kitgum Municipality. The assailants made off with Shs1 million and a laptop.
