Entebbe- The newly-elected president of the United Nations General Assembly, Sam Kahamba Kutesa, has listed key priorities that he will put at the fore while at the helm of one of the UN’s highest offices.
Mr Kutesa, who is also the Foreign Affairs minister said at Entebbe yesterday upon his return from New York, that he will focus on ending poverty, women rights and push for African issues while at the UN.
“I am going to be of service not only to my country and my continent but humanity as a whole,” he said at his arrival at about 2pm local time.
Mr Kutesa who said he will clarify on the priorities after briefing Cabinet was welcomed by former Primary Health Care Minister James Kakooza, among other NRM supporters and other dignitaries.
He was Africa’s sole candidate for the UN job that rotates among continents.
More than 9,000 people had signed a petition urging US and other countries to block his election over concerns of conduct.
Mr Kutesa praised President Museveni for his support and thanked Africa for endorsing his sole candidature.
