WAKISO. Wakiso District chairperson Matia Lwanga Bwanika has offered free land for the construction of a free technical school.
While addressing journalists, Mr Bwanika said he would offer the land to Aid Link, an Irish NGO, which has been supporting development in the district for more than 12 years.
“I have been trying to help boost our district in terms of education and since I have got this chance, I will not ask for any one’s opinion but I will take a decision as the district chairman to give these people land so that they construct for us a magnificent technical school for our children,” said Bwanika.
The school, he said, will be offering hands-on practical subjects such as art and craft, agriculture and catering, among others.
“On many occasions, many parents have failed to take their children to school due to a number of challenges. This school will cater for the disadvantaged children and those that dropped out,” he added.
He said the school will be able to benefit between 2,000 and 3,000 children.
The Aid Link director in Uganda, Ms Anne Ckary, welcomed the district chairman’s gesture, saying their aim is to better people’s standards of living.
