Kampala- The Judiciary has transferred all staff at the Law Development Centre Court to pave way for investigations into the corruption allegations that hit it recently.
“We took the necessary steps to investigate what happened at the LDC Court. To that effect, we asked the magistrate in-charge to make her report,” Mr Elias Kisawuzi, the Judiciary spokesperson, said in a telephone interview at the weekend.
Mr Kisawuzi said Ms Esther Nasambu, the Grade One Magistrate, who has been heading the court, was transferred to Wakiso.
“A decision was taken to transfer all the magistrates and support staff (court clerks). Whoever is found of extortion will be punished as it is not a matter of transferring … from one place to another,” Mr Kisawuzi added.
The spokesperson also said the Judiciary has written to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions demanding that it also transfers the court’s State prosecutors.
The transfers come at a time when the anti-graft crusaders led by Ms Cissy Kagaba had given the Judicial Service Commission and the Judiciary a one-month ultimatum to take the necessary steps against the court officials found culpable of corruption.
