The centre seeks to change the employment terms of employees as well as create new positions.

Kampala- The Law Development Centre (LDC) management committee has terminated services of majority of the administrative staff and re-advertised the positions as part of the wider restructuring process that kicked off in 2012.

The notice of termination letters, were issued to staff last year but the recruitment process had delayed to lack of funds.

LDC publicist Hamis Lukyamuzi confirmed the restructuring yesterday ,saying there are 23 positions waiting to be filled ,but declined divulge details .

“The process is still ongoing and releasing information now might cause unnecessary panic. But what should be clear is that all our affected staff will be paid their entitlements in accordance with the new LDC Standing Orders,” he said by telephone yesterday

Some of the positions to be filled include the academic registrar, assistant academic registrar, human resource manager, editor law reports, manager Legal Aid Clinic and estates officers among others.

Last year, LDC reviewed its Standing Orders and organisational structure for purposes of re-orienting the Centre to effectively and efficiently handle its mandate.

A source at the centre said some current staff have been given a chance to reapply for the jobs, but where the institution lacks suitable persons, such posts have been advertised. Some of the newly created positions are that of the academic registrar and assistant academic registrar .

Recently, Mr Lukyamuzi told this newspaper that they were making such changes to effect a human resource audit report which will change the employment regime from the traditional permanent and pensionable job to flexible employment contractual arrangement.
