LIRA/APAC- Thousands of Christians marched jointly in the streets of Lira and Apac towns on Good Friday as they carried huge wooden Crosses in memory of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion.

Singing halleluiah and dancing, children carried placards to symbolise the huge Cross Jesus carried as he gave out his life to save mankind.

In Lira, Bishop Joseph Franzelli of Lira Catholic Diocese, and Rev Canon William Ongeng, Vicar of All Saints Cathedral, led the procession. Christians converged at the Coronation Ground in Lira Town where they received various sermons.

In Apac, the West Lango Diocese Bishop, Rt Rev Alfred Acur Okodi, used the day to call for peace, love and repentance among Christians.

He condemned evils such as corruption, land stealing, child sacrifice and witchcraft. He explained the Way of the Cross is “a way of recounting the death and passion of Jesus in a concrete, physical, mental and spiritual way.”

Bishop Franzelli urged Christians to refrain from greed and share with the poor.
“You have to care for others. If you don’t do this, you would have missed out on the Cross,” Rev Ongeng said.
