KANUNGU

On March 11, the body of a woman, Agasa Kyomuhendo, 25, was found in a forest by locals in Kanungu.

Speculation rose as to who might have killed her and within hours, news started trickling in as to what the cause of her death was. The Police in Kanungu District stated that they were looking for the 26-year-old husband of the deceased, who is suspected to have murdered her, accusing her of infecting him with HIV. The two were residents of Omurushasha Cell in Ntungo Parish.

The Kigezi region police spokesman, Mr Elly Maate, said the accused allegedly killed his wife on March 8 in Bwindi National Park where they had gone to fetch firewood.

“On reaching deep in the forest, the man used a panga to cut the wife to death. He left her body there. He accused her of infecting him with HIV. They had taken an HIV/Aids test recently and they all tested positive,” Mr Maate said.

The man reportedly returned home and handed the keys to their house over to his father and asked him to take care of their two children before he disappeared.
