  • Needs. Leaders in Kyankwanzi District are pushing for elevation of the 12 health centres to health centre III status and to have them regularly stocked with medical supplies.

Kyankwanzi. Kyankwanzi District leaders have appealed to government for more funding to help them deliver better health services.

The district LC5 chairman, Mr Leopold Ddamulira, said the health services offered at various facilities do not match the current population of 230,000 people in the district.
He said Kyankwanzi District lacks a hospital and the biggest health unit in the district is a health centre IV, which cannot handle serious health complications.

“There are many cases, which would be handled in the health units in the villages, but they are all referred to bigger hospitals in Kiboga, Hoima and Kampala. This is too bad for our people,” Mr Ddamulira said during the district’s belated World Aids Day commemoration at Ntwetwe Health Centre IV on Tuesday. In particular, he said they want all the 12 health centres in the district to be elevated to health centre III status and also improve medical supplies in the district.

Dr John Bosco Sserebe, the district health officer, noted that although there is regular supply of medicine in the health facilities, the quantity is far below the demand.
“We get medicine, but it is not enough compared to the population,” he said.

The Ntwetwe County MP, Mr Joel Ssebikaali, donated two new vehicles to serve as ambulances for residents in the constituency.

“This is what I can offer to my people and I request that you use them for only the purpose I have donated them,” he said as he handed over the keys and logbooks to Mr Ddamulira.
Kyankwanzi District was carved out of Kiboga District in July 2010 and has eight sub-counties.
