Lorry plunges into Karuma falls

Kiryandongo. Two people are feared dead after a Fuso truck registration number UAS 994Y plunged into Karuma falls in Kiryandongo District.

The accident occurred at around 8.30pm last evening.

An eyewitness, Mr Wilfred Unegiu, who was in Gaagaa bus heading to Paidha town, told our reporter Felix Warrom Okello on phone that: "It is true that a Fuso truck plunged into Karuma. Our bus driver saw the on-coming lorry losing control and he had to stop before we could reach the Bridge."

The Aswa regional police spokesperson, Mr Jimmy Patrick Okema, confirmed the incident, saying that: “The lorry which was carrying timber logs from Lira plunged into Karuma falls and running water swept it away shortly after. Three people were on board, one (driver) managed to escape, but with serious injuries.”
