Low turn-up as UPDF recruits LDU officers in Wakiso

Nsangi. Col. Joab Nduhura, the head of Local Defense Unit (LDU) recruitment team at Kyengera town council headquarters has decried the low turn up of applicants for the recruitment exercise.
Col Nduhura said there was poor coordination which led to the low turn up of recruits in all three districts which include Wakiso, Kampala and Mukono.
“We expected to recruit over 250 people from Kyengera town council but the numbers were not on our side. This might force us to consult our bosses to allow us more time to come back to Nsangi and recruit more LDU officers,” said Nduhura.
The recruitment exercise is expected to close on October 1, 2018 and then the recruits will start their four-month training course.
“The officers will be trained from Kaweweta training school in Luwero District and after which they will be passed out in February 2019. They will reportedly be paid Shs200,000 per month as their salary. We are targeting over 24,000 LDU officers from three districts but we shall begin with 6,700 officers in the first phase," Col Nduhura said.

“We have told all the recruits that if they use their guns badly, they will be charged in military court because they are now under UPDF army. We have also a disciplinary committee in the army so whoever offends against our laws will definitely face it rough,” he added.
The recruitment exercise started at 12:00pm and by 2pm, it had already been closed. The exercise started with physical training, health check up and later checking of academic documents.
