Ms Kanyike

Kampala- Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has appointed Ms Sarah Kanyike as the deputy Lord Mayor.

Ms Kanyike represents Makindye East in the Kampala City Council Authority council.

Mr Lukwago announced his choice for deputy in the Thursday council meeting.

Ms Kanyike was Lukwago’s personal assistant during the troubled reign between 2011-2015.

Ms Kanyike, a Democratic Party supporter once served as Makindye East councillor under the mayorship of Mr John Ssebaana Kizito.

She once unsuccessfully contested for the Makindye East Parliamentary seat.

There has been widespread speculation that Mr Lukwago was likely to appoint Ms Doreen Nyanjura, a supporter of Forum for Democratic Change, a party whose supporters dominate the council.

Ms Ssemakula Musisi, the executive director of KCCA did not attend the council but was represented by her deputy.

Ms Kanyike was overwhelmingly supported by the councillors when her name was proposed by Mr Lukwago.

Ms  Kanyike has taken the oath of acceptance before the council presided over by Mr Lukwago.
