Luweero Diocese pioneer Bishop Misusera Bugimbi has been laid to rest at St Mark Cathedral in Luweero Town. According to the church, the bishop succumbed to kidney-related complications, high blood pleasure and throat cancer last week.

In a message delivered by Information minister Rose Namayanja at the funeral service on Monday, President Museveni described the deceased as a hardworking, outspoken and good shepherd who will be missed. The President said Bishop Bugimbi was very instrumental in rebuilding Luweero through his foresighted pastoral work.

The cleric served the diocese from 1991, five years after the National Resistance Army rebellion.
“As an elder, Bishop Bugimbi has been a great reference for the church leadership and the country. He was very instrumental in the development of Luweero region as a church leader at a time when the area was just recovering from the effects of the liberation war,” Mr Museveni eulogised.

Church of Uganda Archbishop Stanley Ntagali, said Bishop Bugimbi was a mentor and an elder in the Church whose work inspired many people.

“Many people live a selfish life full of evil which is now characterised by acts of greed, corruption and murder - which Bishop Bugimbi has been fighting. We are celebrating a life of a hero who has fought a good fight and gone to be with our Lord,” Archbishop Ntagali said.
