Duckhill Business Consult International Limited, a microfinance company, has accepted to repay Luzira Secondary School teachers, who were servicing a Shs25 million their colleague fraudulently acquired.

This comes after the company discovered that the people it was deducting from monthly installments were not the ones that took the loan.
In a telephone interview with the Daily Monitor yesterday, Mr John Kalemba, the company’s managing director, said while the police continues to hunt for the people that connived with Duckhill to swindle the money, the company had issued cheques to clear the affected teachers.

“We are refunding each teacher the amount of money that had been deducted from his/her account since November. The cheques are already available,” Mr Kalemba said.

He added: “Meanwhile, police continues to hunt down the two prime suspects, a teacher at the school and one of our former workers, who connived with others at large to rob us.”
At least 15 teachers of Luzira Secondary School were affected by the fraud.

Available information indicates that a teacher at the school conspired with an official at the company and received the loan using bank details stolen from the Luzira teachers.

As a result, Duckhill in November started deducting monthly installments on the teachers as it presumed that they were the debtors.
However, early this month, the company found out the money collected was from wrong people after they filed a complaint to the police.
