Lwakataka further remanded

By Issa Aliga

Rally driver, Ponsiano Lwakataka, and his employee, Mr Abdul Mukiibi, have for the second time been remanded in Kalisizo Government Prison on charges of assault, threatening violence, and obstruction a police officer from doing official work.
Mr Lwakataka and his co-accused were presented in the Magistrate’s court at Kalisizo by prison warders but there was no magistrate to attend to them. The court clerk, Florence Nabukenya, then told them that that the magistrate, Ms Susan Awidi who was supposed to preside over their case was held up in Kampala due to some unavoidable circumstances and they had to be taken back to prison until July 25, 2014 when they will be returned to court.
Mr Lwakataka was arrested about two weeks ago and has since been charged with multiple offences related to illegal fish trade in different courts.
Last week Mr Lwakataka and Mr Mukiibi were charged with assault, inciting violence and preventing a police officer from arresting suspects that were believed to be transporting immature fish from Dimo Landing Site. It is alleged that the two incited members of the public to beat up the policeman and to stop him from impounding a truck loaded with immature fish.
It is further alleged that in March this year, Mr Mukiibi and Mr Lwakataka caused grievous bodily harm to a police constable, Mr Mikidadi Kabiito attached to Sanje Police Post in Rakai District. Kabiito tried to stop them as they reportedly traveled from Kasensero Landing Site carrying immature fish. The lawyer of the two suspects, Mr. Hassan Kamba, was in court as the court clerk read out the court order to return them to prison.
