Back home. The Leader of Opposition in Parliament was making her first official appearance since being appointed to the position.

Kasese. The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Ms Winfred Kiiza, last Friday received a heroic welcome from her supporters in Kasese to congratulate her upon being appointed into this position.
Ms Kiiza, a member of the Forum for Democratic Change party,(FDC), who is also the Kasese District Woman MP, officially made an appearance to her home district for the first time since she was appointed Leader of the Opposition in the 10th Parliament.

She moved in a convoy through the streets of Kasese Town before addressing her supporters at Rwenzori Square.
“Since you voted me and since being appointed as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, I had not returned to greet you and thank you for the support,” Ms Kiiza told her supporters.
She opposed the raging debate about proposals to split Kasese District into three new districts.

Fight divisions
She urged locals to be careful with those agitating for the split who she said were targeting the unity of the people of Kasese.
“Those supporting the split do not wish well for the district and the [Rwenzururu] Kingdom at large,” Ms Kiiza added.
The FDC party president, Gen Mugisha Muntu, praised the people of Kasese for supporting FDC in the 2016 general elections.
All the five MPs representing constituencies in Kasese District are FDC leaders.
The district chairperson and majority of members of the district council belong to the opposition party.
Violence broke out in Rwenzori region in the aftermath of the hotly contested elections.
