Labwor County Member of Parliament Micheal Ayepa on Wednesday confronted Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) officials in Parliament as they went to seek approval of their 2018/19 budget.

The MP who stormed the Parliamentary Committee on Education tasked Daniel Odongo, the UNEB executive secretary to release his daughter’s results saying she is innocent before accusing UNEB of negligence that led to the suspected malpractice for which results of Seeta Parents School were withheld.

“I went to UNEB looking for Mr Odongo and I was told he is here that is why I have come. I feel like burning UNEB. This is the reason someone became [Joseph] Kony (LRA rebel leader). First of all it is your weakness,” Mr Ayepa said.

Mr Odongo explained that UNEB took a decision after three security committees of the examinations board reviewed the results and confirmed that they did not reflect the work of the candidates and they had to be withheld until investigations are complete.

During the release of exams on January 12, UNEB officials said results of 2,559 candidates had been withheld due to malpractices pending investigations.

"These were mainly cases of external assistance given to candidates by third parties inside the examination rooms. Consequently, the Board is withholding results of 2,559 candidates pending completion of investigations,” Mr Odongo said.

According to him, all candidates whose results were withheld would be accorded a hearing by the Board's Examinations Security Committee as required by the law of the natural justice.

“Those candidates who will be cleared will have their results released,” he said then.
