The Soroti Woman MP has vowed to petition Parliament, seeking an explanation why the Ministry of Health allegedly blocked World Vision Uganda from distributing 500,000 mosquito nets to Soroti and Busia districts.

Speaking during the Women’s Day celebrations in Asuret Sub-county at the weekend, Ms Angeline Osege termed the ministry’s decision as suicidal and that those responsible must take responsibility for the deaths that have since occurred.

The decision was communicated through the resident district commissioner for Soroti.

“I was saddened by this kind of development. We can’t keep these nets because malaria continues to kill people,” Ms Osege said, adding that government should appreciate efforts of the charity organisation in helping fight malaria.

Mr Ben Etonu, the resident district commissioner, however, said he never made the decision as an individual but received instructions from the Minister of Health who asked him to block the distribution until further notice.
