Speaker Rebecca Kadaga yesterday allowed the government up to next week to explain the level of the country’s preparedness ahead of the Kenyan elections which take place in the same week.

Kitgum Woman MP Beatrice Anywar yesterday raised the matter as an issue of national importance but didn’t get the desired response from the government.

“We are worried as a country on how the economy will strive if we don’t prepare in advance. We need an assurance from government that all is well, that we have fuel and that the prices won’t be escalating by the day,” Ms Anywar said.

“How much fuel do we have in the reserves? Fuel is the most important issue here yet the last time we got information that the fuel reserves were under renovation. All this must be explained before Kenya votes.”
Kenya goes to the polls on Monday next week.

Uganda depends heavily on the port of Mombasa for its exports and imports. The country’s economy was severely affected when essential supplies were cut off upon the outbreak of post-election violence in the disputed 2007 polls.
