PARLIAMENT. Parliament yesterday unanimously approved a motion in recognition of the distinguished service rendered by former Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) commissioner general Allen Kagina.
The MPs, who described Ms Kagina as an “acclaimed and accomplished” woman who transformed the image of URA from a corrupt organisation to an open and transparent one, called on other civil servants to emulate her.
Bulamogi County MP Kenneth Lubogo moved the motion in Ms Kagina’s honour before MPs offered their overwhelming support in recognition of her contribution to URA during her 10-year reign as commissioner general.
“Ms Kagina is a humble, hardworking and diligent Ugandan citizen with a memorable and commendable career and a role model for women not only in Uganda but also world over. She should therefore be commended for her contribution to the development of Uganda,” said Mr Lubogo.
He outlined a number of achievements that were registered during her term in office which included structural reviews, reducing departments and administrative layers from 10 to seven to reduce the bureaucratic tendencies and quicken decision making.
During her time, URA registered a remarkable improvement in the net revenue collection from Shs1.92 trillion in 2004 to Shs8 trillion in 2014. Ms Kagina was present in Parliament yesterday in the company of her husband, Mr Paul Kagina.
