KAMPALA.

Three Members of Parliament have been taken to court for failing to settle loans they acquired from Parliament SACCO in 2012.
dragged to the Commercial Court for failing to settle loans that they acquired from their SACCO in 2012.

According to the General manager of the parliamentarians Co-operative and credit society Mr Methods Mureebe , the MPs; Mr David Bahati (Ndorwa west), Ms Ruth Acheng (Kole woman) and Mr Frederick Mbagadhi Nkayi (Kagoma county) owe Shs270 million to the SAACO .

Court documents indicate that the said MPs, between November and July 2012, Mr Bahati, Ms Aceng and Mr Mbagadhi applied and were extended loans worth Shs80 million, Shs60million and 50million respectively after pledging their payments as security.

Mr Mureebe particularly points out to MP Bahati for even instructing the SAACO to settle his earlier loans from Kenroy investments and Great cash solutions totaling up to Shs38 m.

He adds that however, the MPs only instructed the Parliamentary chief Accountant to only pay money for one month and defaulted on other month’s to date.

Mr Mureebe says the SAACO has been prompted to petition court after several demands and reminders to the MPs to settle their loans but have yielded no results and now court has summoned the Mps to file their defence within 10 days.
Our efforts to reach the Ms Acheng and Mr Mbagadhi for a comment were futile as their phones were not available by press time. Our repeated phone calls to Mr Bahati also went unanswered.

Meanwhile, the same court has also summoned Busiro South MP, Mr Joseph Balikudembe to defend himself over allegations that he failed to pay a Shs156million loan he acquired from Housing Finance Bank.
