KALANGALA- Kalangala District is a flurry of activity and excitement ahead of Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s coronation anniversary fete slated for July 31.

Right from Luuku where the ferries, which connect the Island district to the main land dock, to Kalangala Town, people have started decorating roads, buildings, erecting arches and effigies of the Kabaka in key strategic places.

In anticipation of the huge numbers of Buganda Kingdom subjects expected to attend the ceremony, Kalangala Infrastructure Services (KIS), which manages the two ferries that connect the district to the mainland, has changed the sailing schedules for the ferries.

Plan
The KIS spokesperson, Mr Joseph Mulindwa, on Tuesday said the ferries, which make five trips daily, will between July 27 and July 31 be making at least 12 trips to cater for many more people who will be travelling to the Islands for the coronation fete.

“On the day (July 30) the Kabaka is expected to arrive, MV Ssese will be reserved for him and his entourage to avoid delays. Other regular travellers to the Islands will be using MV Pearl during the same period,” he said.

Mr Mulindwa made the revelation during a meeting with Buganda education minister Twaha Kaawaase at Bujumba Sub-county headquarters in Kalangala District.
