Makerere University appointments board has suspended Dr Stella Nyanzi, a research fellow at Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) who early this week stripped protesting closure of her office by the institute’s director Prof Mahmood Mamdani.

On Monday, Dr Nyanzi stripped, protesting being locked out of her office by her boss Prof. Mamdani who accused her of refusing to teach MISR’s doctor of philosophy (PhD) students.
“Following the unfortunate incident of stripping by Dr. Stella Nyanzi, a member of Staff at MISR, the Appointments Board has held a meeting and considered the situation as well as the report of the Committee set up by the Vice Chancellor. The board has resolved to suspend Dr. Stella Nyanzi from Makerere University with immediate effect, pending investigations,” reads part of a statement issued by chairman of Makerere University Appointments board Mr Bruce Balaba Kabaasa.
According to Mr Kabaasa, the board also resolved to set up a committee to carry out in depth investigations into MISR issues.

The committee which comprises of Hajjati Sharifah Buzeki, the assistant Commissioner HRM policies and procedures, ministry of public service, Prof. Sarah Kiguli, professor of pediatrics and Child Health, Dr Sarah Ssali, a senior Lecturer School of Women and Gender Studies, and Mr Jude Mbabaali of Uganda Law Society is expected to commence its work on April 25, 2016.
Kabaasa warned Makerere University staff members against addressing this matter in the press during investigations, failure of which he said will attract disciplinary actions.
