What you need to know:

  • None of the schools in northern Uganda produced a candidate who made it to the coveted list.

Makerere University has admitted 39 students on the government sponsorship programme to study bachelor of laws degree in next academic year.
Topping the list are four students, one from St Mary’s Kitende and two from St Joseph SS Naggalama and one from Mt St Mary’s Namagunga.
All the students, except four, admitted for the programme come from schools in and around Kampala.

The four are from Bweranyangi Girls’ Secondary School in Bushenyi District in the Western Region, two from Immaculate Heart Girls’ Secondary School, in Nyakibale also in Western Uganda and one from Iganga Secondary School from Eastern Uganda.
None of the schools in northern Uganda produced a candidate who made it to the coveted list.
All the students came from what are generally termed as “schools for the rich”.

Of the 1,633 students from A-Level, 860 beat the 50 per cent pass mark, making the group the largest number to ever sit and pass the pre-entry law exams at Makerere since they were started in 2012.
Pre-entry exams were introduced in 2012 seeking to test the students’ logic, reading, comprehension, language, numerical, general knowledge and analytical writing skills, which are supposed to be done by every student seeking admission to Bachelors of Law.
