KAMPALA.

Makindye East Member of Parliament Ibrahim Kasozi was yesterday arrested by the Police as he led a procession to Ggaba landing site where he had planned to hold a second consultative meeting of the day.

Under heavy police deployment Kasozi, joined by a number of city councilors was allowed to consult his voters at St. Johns Primary School, Kikubamutwe near Kibuli a suburb of Kampala.

At the meeting, he asked the people in the area to oppose the proposed amendment of article 102 (b) of the constitution which seeks to remove the 75 years as the upper cap for presidential candidates.

“We, the opposition Mps are saying no to age limit removal and now I ask you the voters to rally behind us to ensure that President Museveni leaves power peacefully in 2021,” Kasozi said.

Confusion then started when Kasozi decided to leader his voters to Ggaba to hold another rally.

However, on reaching Kabalagala Police Station, the procession stopped something that made the police officers on guard at the gates to tighten their positions.

It is at this point that police commanded by the Kabalagala Division Police commander Bernard Mugerwa arrested Mr Kasozi and drove him towards Ggaba.

His supporters followed suit walking on foot but they were stopped by Police who had parked two trucks just after Kansanga Market.

It was later understood that Kasozi had been driven back to Kabalagala Police Station for detention.

The Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Mr Luke Owoyesigire said Kasozi was arrested after his procession tried to force its way into Kabalagala Police Station to demand for the release of three local politicians that had been arrested earlier.

“Hon Kasozi is being held at Kabalagala Police Station. He wanted to lead a procession into the police station to demand the release of three former aspirants for youth councilor position that we arrested for holding an illegal procession in the morning. We had allowed him to consult because he was not accompanied by other Mps,” said Mr Oyesigire.

About 100 meters from the Munyonyo junction, police had mounted a roadblock where every vehicle heading to Ggaba was checked and red ribbons and caps were removed from the occupants.

Police have confirmed that one man was injured during an accident that occurred along Ggaba Road as the different people boarded motorcycles and trucks to go for the rally at the landing site.

Mr Oyesigire said the man who is yet to be identified fell off one of the trucks near Bunga and was rushed to Mulago hospital for treatment.
