Man, 24, arrested for slaughtering 4-month-old brother

Police in Kapchorwa District have arrested a 24-year-old man on allegations of killing his four-month-old brother.
It’s reported that Enock Chemtai, a resident of Sukut village, Kawowo Sub- County in Kapchorwa District went to his parents' bedroom and cut his brother’s neck before fleeing. He was however, arrested as he tried to board a Mbale-bound taxi.

The Sipi region police spokesperson, Mr Rogers Taitika identified the deceased as Sunday Mark a son to Ms Jane Yaliwo, 37.
He said the incident which happened at 3am Thursday is being investigated by police to establish Chemtai’s motive.
“We are holding a man for cutting off his brother’s neck,” said Mr Taitika.

He said police officers visited the crime scene and recovered the blood stained panga which the suspect allegedly used to kill his brother.
According to Mr Taitika, the suspect who is currently detained at Kapchorwa central police station will be charged with murder after police investigations.

The Kapchorwa RDC, Jane Francis Kuka blamed the gruesome incident on high rates of drug abuse in the area.
“We didn’t expect that incident moreover from a very powerful Christian home. Investigations are still ongoing because it’s a criminal case,” said Mrs Kuka.

She told Daily Monitor that she has directed police to arrest any person selling drugs like marijuana, khat and alcohol.
She told Daily Monitor that drug abuse is becoming health problem in the area.
“Drugs are killing our young generation,” she said.
Ms Rose Chellangati blamed the increased drug consumption in the area on weak laws.
