Couple arrested over death of a man in bar fight

A man and his wife have been arrested for allegedly stabbing to death a colleague in a bar over a woman.

Musa Kwiri, 21 and resident of Amusi village, Kachumbala Sub County in Bukedea District succumbed to deep injuries he sustained after being stabbed several times at Boom bar and Lodge in Nakaloke town, Mbale District last Saturday.

The attacker used a knife to stab the deceased twice in the neck and stomach after they developed a misunderstanding over a woman.

The Elgon region police spokesperson, Mr Suwedi Manshur identified the suspects as Brian Wamono, 23 and his wife Jenifer Amongin, 21, both residents of Kolonyi in Nakaloke Sub County, Mbale District.

“We have arrested the suspected killer and his wife to help us in our investigations. We also recovered the killer knife from the suspects’ house,” said Mr Manshur.

Mr Wamono confessed before Police and journalists at Mbale central police station today that he stabbed the deceased over Amongin.

“He has been chasing after my wife for a long time. I even warned him several times but he was adamant. On that day, I became angry after again finding him with my wife in the bar,” said Wamono.
The couple has two children.

Amongin also confessed that she was involved in a love affair with the deceased.

“I was invited by the deceased for a drink in Nakaloke town council but shortly after we had started drinking, my husband came in and started quarrelling with the deceased before it degenerated into physical fight,” said Amongin.

Mr Manshur said Wamono confessed to police that he killed Kwiri out of anger.

He said detectives have sent his file to the Directors of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice adding that they had preferred murder charges against the two.
