Masaka - A primary school teacher was on Tuesday morning found dead, killed in what is believed to be a fight between him and his partner, who was also found unconscious and rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.
The incident took place on Monday night in Kitaka Zone, Nyendo, a Masaka suburb.
Berry Ahabwe and his wife Prossy are recent settlers in Nyendo, where they moved from Kabale and established a wholesale store. Prossy tended the shop, while Mr Ahabwe was working on his transfer from Kabale to a Masaka school.
Mr Ahabwe was found dead on Tuesday morning, his body bearing wounds that suggest he was hit with a sharp-ended object. His partner was unconscious, lying next to him and bearing similar wounds, including a big one to the head letting out a slow stream of blood.
There were pieces of wood with nails in them in the room the two were found, with furniture and other house items disorganized. There was blood everywhere in the room.
Olive Nakitende, a neighbor to the couple, says she got concerned when Prossy did not take her 5-year-old son to school as she usually does every morning. It is the son who opened when she knocked on the door.
“I called from outside the house and knocked at the door which was bolted inside, but it was only Joshua that answered my call and struggled to open the door,” she told Daily Monitor.
The couple has two sons, one aged five, and another three years.
Five-year-old Joshua says he saw his parents beat each other, and that he remembers his mother pleading with the man to save her life.
Nakitende told Daily Monitor that the couple has always had disagreements, with the wife always accusing the man of infidelity.
Police recovered the blood stained pieces of wood, and took both the unconscious woman and the dead man to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital. The woman was admitted into the intensive care unit.
