Gulu- Gulu Resident High Court judge Margaret Mutonyi has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 10 years in jail for killing his lover.

Mr Benson Adupa, a resident of Laroo Forest Ward, Laroo Division in Gulu Municipality, was charged with the murder of his 20-year-old lover, Irene Aol.

Prosecution led by Patrick Omia alleged that on June 3, 2014, Adupa killed Aol after a quarrel between them. In his statement to the police, Mr Adupa admitted that he had punched his girlfriend on the neck, which caused her death.

Mr Adupa said on the evening of June 3, 2014, he returned home only to find a man coming out of his house. He added that when he entered the house, he found the deceased still naked which made him to believe that she was having an affair.

Justice Mutonyi spared him the death sentence and instead sent him to prison for 10 years.
