Man held over beheading wife

KAMPALA.

Police in Kampala have arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly beheading his wife.
Mr Edward Lubega, a peasant allegedly beheaded Flavia Namata who was a matron at Light Secondary School in Seguku on Entebbe Road for a yet to be known motive.
Mr Patrick Onyago, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman, said Lubega reportedly did the gruesome act on the night of June 3.

“On June 6, the Police in Kakiri picked a headless, naked body of a female adult. It was taken to hospital for postmortem as investigations commenced,” Mr Onyango said Tuesday at Central Police Station.
Three days before the body was picked, the relatives and school administration had reported a case of a missing person. It was later confirmed that the beheaded person was Namata.
The school gateman was arrested to help the police in their investigations. He repeatedly denied having any knowledge regarding Namata’s disappearance.

“We went and retrieved phone records which revealed that Lubega had spoken to the Askari (gateman) inquiring whether his wife had moved out. The gateman confirmed that she had left the school and that was when she was last seen,” Mr Onyango said.
The phone call data further revealed that Lubega was the last person the deceased spoke to. Lubega became the prime suspect and the police’s notorious Flying Squad Unit (FSU) was assigned to look for him whether dead or alive until he was picked form his hide out on Monday.
“Our FSU tracked his phone and was found hiding in Busika in Wakiso district. We have him in our custody as he waits to answer murder charges,” Mr Onyango said.
